Clinical internships put you in a school with your own caseload and weekly supervision. Everything else, from social media to program evaluation, builds the organization those clinicians work inside.

CLINICAL INTERNSHIPS
You will carry a real caseload, and you will not do it alone.
Charleston Hope clinical interns are embedded in one school for the academic year, providing individual therapy to students who would otherwise receive no care at all. You are not shadowing. You are the clinician for the children on your caseload, working alongside a licensed clinician and a care coordinator, with weekly supervision behind you.
Before you meet a single student, you complete five days of training covering our clinical model, Child-Centered Play Therapy, assessment and treatment planning, ethics and mandated reporting, childhood grief, and wellness.

Weekly individual supervision from our Clinical Director. Monthly observation with written feedback within a week. Monthly group supervision through your school's multidisciplinary team meeting. Six professional development sessions across the year. Training in Child-Centered Play Therapy, which almost no graduate program offers and very few sites in South Carolina can supervise.

20-30 hours a week on site at your assigned school, on a schedule set with your care coordinator before the year begins. A commitment to the full academic year.

Clinical Mental Health Counseling, practicum and internship, CACREP-aligned. Supervision is provided by our Clinical Director, a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor.
Master of Social Work field placement, when the student brings their own field instructor. Our Clinical Director holds an LPC-S and cannot serve as an MSW field instructor, so your school or an outside LCSW must hold that role. We provide the placement, the full training pathway, a real caseload, and day-to-day clinical support at your school.

Applications are screened first for program requirements and schedule fit, then a brief phone conversation, then an in-person or Zoom interview. We sign an MOU with your university before your start date, and your field supervisor receives regular updates on your progress.

No. Charleston Hope clinical internships are unpaid. The placement is built at twenty hours a week specifically so it can coexist with outside work, and the schedule is set with your care coordinator before the year begins around your availability.

Direct hours include individual sessions, group sessions and Step-In, teacher consultation, and caregiver consultation.
Indirect hours include documentation, case conceptualization, supervision, multidisciplinary team meetings, MTSS meetings, professional development, and training.
Charleston Hope provides four individual or triadic supervision hours per month, plus monthly group supervision through your school's multidisciplinary team meeting. Your Clinical Director confirms how your supervision structure maps to both your university's requirements and the South Carolina licensure board's requirements before your placement begins.

Dr. Etta Gantt, LPC-S, Clinical Director. Etta holds the clinical standard of care across every Charleston Hope school, trains every intern in Child-Centered Play Therapy before they meet a student, and provides all weekly supervision.

Applications are open year around. Phone screens and interviews run March-June Five days of required training take place in early August. Placement begins with the school year and runs through May.
We sign an MOU with your university before your start date, and your field supervisor receives updates on your progress throughout the year.

Build the instruments and collect the data that tell us whether children are actually better off. Past interns have written our fidelity checklist, designed our post-discharge follow-up, and fielded interviews with parents and teachers.
Data and Analytics
Public Health
Work in Salesforce and our assessment platform to connect the systems, compute the numbers nobody has pulled yet, and build the dashboards our board and our schools read.
Development and Grant Writing
Funder research, prospect profiles, letters of inquiry, and donor communications, working directly with our Advancement Director and Executive Director.
Content, campaigns, and the day-to-day voice of an organization whose story is genuinely good and mostly untold.
Program design, evidence pathways, and the policy and funding landscape for school-based mental health in South Carolina.
